BNSF and CP are overloaded with oil train traffic. In order to unclog traffic on their main line they plan to build a junction in Crystal for their southbound traffic and plan to use the line coming in from the east that crosses at grade at Central, Johnson, 37th (near Unique Thrift) and Stinson to relieve the bottlenecks. (see map) These tracks rarely used in the past will be filled with more and more trains. The citizens of Crystal, Robbinsdale and Golden Valley will be facing the same issues and have asked the Surface Transportation Board for an EIS (Environmental Impact Statement) for their area. Other municipalities throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin are facing the same issues and are requesting an EIS for the entire upper Mississippi watershed. If you are interested in supporting a study to see if there is a better way to handle these trains full of highly flammable Bakken oil that takes them around rather than through highly populated areas please attend the following meeting
